Music Body is an ongoing, multidisciplinary research project that utilizes the ground-breaking SoMo technology: a wearable midi controller that connects sound with movement. This technology enables dancers to create a movement "score," making a movement become recognizable by the sound that it produces. What makes this process compelling is SoMo's ability to send data to Ableton Push, a digital audio workstation for composing music live. This process gives the dancers' physical movements an audible voice and ultimately assists in composing new and original musical tracks.

Music Body Project is also a part of our Community Engagement Programs through workshops, events, and post-performance activities.

This project's focus on healing is particularly noteworthy, as it highlights the potential of music and dance to promote physical and emotional well-being. By using movement and sound to connect with the body, Music Body can create a holistic approach to healing that is both effective and accessible for dancers and non-dancers alike.

This collaborative project has been made possible by Jayson Douglas, recipient of the Minnesota Arts Board Individual Grant in 2022 and 2023, and the Minnesota Arts Board.
